January Love List

Here are just a few things we’re loving in our homeschooling — and in our lives — right now (some Amazon affiliate links are included):

Z has discovered the Branches early chapter book line from Scholastic. So far he’s loving their Eerie Elementary, Dragon Masters, and Notebook of Doom series.

I’ve been reading Meik Wiking’s The Little Book of Hygge and re-reading Karen Maezen Miller’s Paradise in Plain Site: Lessons from a Zen Garden.

At Home:

I’ve been finding a lot of new recipes and interesting healthy snack ideas here.

Our 19 year old, is considering joining the Air Force at some point. In the meantime, he and his dad have been using their Pre-Boot Camp Workout to start getting into shape. (Z sometimes joins in, but I’m sticking with yoga and walking for myself.)

We never get tired of games — board, card, or video. Z and I have been playing our usual Minecraft, and Animal Crossing New Leaf (my favorite!), and we’ve had another afternoon of Age of Mythology the Board Game. But we’ve also recently added Adventure Time Card Wars and lots of Uno, Connect Four, and Sorry! to the mix.

Around Town:

We finally got around to visiting the recently reopened Fernbank Forest. I still miss the old Fernbank Forest days, but Z and I had a great time exploring all of the new paths and play areas.

One of our new favorite restaurants. Korean fried chicken…so incredibly yummy!

Around the Web:

Hygge. Hygge. Hygge.

This Miyazaki news makes us very happy.

After Z is in bed, the husband and I have been watching (and loving) this wonderful show on Netflix. If you like Japan, food, and/or good, simple storytelling, this is must-see.

What are some of the things you’re enjoying these days?
