Book Club

NOTE: Our Book Clubs are cancelled for March. We will plan to meet in April, as scheduled, if the coronavirus outbreak is no longer a threat. The Book Club selections originally planned for March (A Tangle of Knots for the Middle Grades club, and Pride for the Teen club) will now be discussed in April. The April book selections will be moved to May, etc.

Summerly Homeschool runs a monthly Middle School Book Club and a monthly Teen Book Club. The information for this semester is below.

Each month, the families who sign up for Book Club get a pdf lesson plan emailed to them the week before we meet, for the kids/teens to use if they’d like.

Middle Grades Book Club — (January-April) one Friday per month, 11am-12:15pm at Waller’s Coffee Shop in Decatur.

Ages 10-14; Cost: $5 per meeting (or $20 total for all four)

This Book Club will read a total of four books, January through April. The book list and meeting dates are below. I’ll send out an email the week before we meet each month (to everyone who has signed up) with possible discussion topics, links to interesting activities or sites related to the book, and other information.

Each book club meeting will be 45 minutes. We’ll discuss the book, and sometimes do an activity together if time/space allows. Materials for activities are included in the price unless otherwise indicated.

Parents and siblings are invited to stay on-site at Waller’s during Book Club. You can join us for the book discussion or grab a table of your own and have 45 minutes to read, hang out, or work. There is also a lovely outside area with a creek in the back, and lots of things to keep younger siblings entertained.

January Book Club — meets 1/31; Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit THIS MONTH’S BOOK CLUB IS FULL!

February Book Club — meets 2/28; The Friendship War by Andrew Clements — DONE!

March Book Club — meeting cancelled

April Book Club — meets 4/24; A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff

May Book Club — meets 5/15; book is a biography of your choice! Read it and come prepared to tell us about the book you’ve read, why you chose that book (and that person), and what you thought about it.
